Writer DeMatteis recounted:Īs I was getting ready to work on the story, I was sitting in my office and looking through a Marvel Universe Handbook and came across the entry for Kraven the Hunter. Although generally considered to be the definitive Kraven the Hunter story, the story originally had a completely different character in Kraven's role.

The character has appeared in numerous Spider-Man media adaptations over the years, including animated series and video games. In 2009, Kraven was ranked as IGN's 53rd greatest comic book villain of all time. The character is widely regarded as one of Spider-Man's most formidable enemies among his rogues, and gained considerable attention from storylines such as 1987's " Kraven's Last Hunt" and 2019's " Hunted". Because of this, Kraven has also been depicted as an antihero and an ally of Squirrel Girl and sometimes Spider-Man himself, whom he came to respect deeply for the numerous times he defeated Kraven. Though he is often overconfident in his own abilities, which he boasts about, he possesses a great sense of honor, and treats his adversaries as equals until proven otherwise. Kraven is typically portrayed as a renowned big-game hunter whose goal in life is to best Spider-Man in order to prove himself as the world's greatest hunter. He is the half-brother of the Chameleon and one of the founding members of the Sinister Six. Kraven has also come into conflict with other heroes, such as Black Panther and Tigra.

Though we disagree on the film’s ending, the Huz and I were glad to have made our way to San Francisco to watch this. The story is very heartening, and serves as a reminder of the optimism one carries and humanizes the hardships that many experience upon immigrating to the U.S. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I will say that the cast that includes Dani Purdi, Rizwan Manji, Jon Heder, and Karen David, is amazing. It seems the film’s theater distribution is limited, so please check out their Facebook page for screening information. That she is one of a small handful of Muslim women filmmakers, makes this film a definite accomplishment. The story was inspired by her father’s story, and Khan set out to create a film where the main character is Muslim. I was struck by her take on an immigrant story set in the late 1970s/early 1980s. I believe that if you want to see more diversity in Hollywood and popular media, then you have to do your best to support media that reflects those sensibilities.
